Walking in Love

Ephesians 4:32-5:2 "And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. Therefore, be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma."

Choices. We make them every day. We choose what to eat, wear, and how to act. It is so easy to respond to someone who has been ugly to you with like action. But, God calls us to be different. He wants us to respond to others as He responds to us! Think about how choosing to act like God in difficult situations may affect your walk with God and also your relationships with others.

We are not responsible for how others act towards us, only how we act towards them. So what if someone acts rude or ugly towards you. Its ok. As we respond with Christlikeness, others will see the change and will want to know what you have. God will begin to open doors so that you can share with Christ and His healing with others.

The old saying "hurt people, hurt people" is true. We must remember, also, that because we are human, we ALL have been hurt and we ALL hurt others (either intentionally or not). This is one reason why forgiveness is so very powerful. It breaks the chains of bondage to hurt and it heals wounds. Even secular counseling/psychology is starting to acknowledge and study the power of forgiving others.

So for today, the challenge to us is to CHOOSE to be kind to others, to forgive one another, to love one another, and to walk in Christ.

Father, we so struggle with how we act towards others. It is so easy to lash out in hurt or anger or other negative emotions when others have acted like this to us. Please help us to respond the way You want us to: in love, in kindness, in forgiveness. Please help us look more like You. In Jesus name, Amen.
